Your voice influences your speech

Your voice influences the impact of your speech and can make or break its success.

Posture has a great impact on your voice. Air must flow freely through your lungs and vocal chords.

If you slouch when speaking, with your shoulders hunched and your head down, your lungs and vocal chords are blocked and air flow is reduced.

Breathe in deeply keeping your chest steady and think about breathing into your stomach as you take in breath. Then exhale slowly, like letting air out of a balloon.

Once you take in that full breath, use that breath to support your words, letting it out steadily while you are speaking.

Keep in mind: For maximum control of your breath and voice when you speak, stand straight, knees slightly flexed, head straight and shoulders back.
